The Barron's survey is designed to identify top fund managers in nine broad investment categories. They are identified according to how well they performed on a risk-adjusted basis, relative to others with the same investment objective over a period of at least three years, without undue volatility in returns.
Barron's, "They're the Tops", Christopher C. Williams, 08-11-08. For the 2008 Barron's/Value Line survey 1,008 equity funds were screened. Funds with more than two lead managers, managers with less then three years' tenure, and funds with assets under $200 million were excluded. The ranking is based on the performance of the manager with the longer tenure, and co-managers must share day-to-day management of the fund. 564 managers qualified to be ranked. |

Stock fund values fluctuate
in response to the activities of individual companies and general market and
economic conditions. Bond fund values fluctuate in response to the financial
condition of individual issuers, general market and economic conditions, and
changes in interest rates. In general, when interest rates rise, bond fund values
fall and investors may lose principal value. Some funds, including nondiversified
funds and funds investing in foreign investments, high-yield bonds, small and
mid cap stocks, and/or more volatile segments of the economy, entail additional
risk and may not be appropriate for all investors. Consult a Fund's prospectus
for additional information on these and other risks.
